September wrap-up!

Happy October, friends! It is crazy to me that we’re already in fucking October. Being totally honest, as I’m writing this, I don’t have any posts drafted for October, so I may be a bit absent. I plan to write some in the next couple of weeks, but apologies if they’re not super exciting or they’re a little spaced out. Work has been super busy lately, and will only be getting busier in the coming weeks, so idk how much I’ll be blogging. But I really appreciate all the continued love and support. This blog has brought me so many wonderful things, and I’m forever grateful for that.

But anyway, enough sappiness, let’s talk about the books I read this month!

Books Read

  • Replay by Ken Grimwood: 4 stars
  • Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers: 3.5 stars
  • The Son of the House by Cheluchi Onyemelukwe-Onuobia: 4 stars

I was actually really happy with my reading this month! It took me a while to get through some of these books, but I’m happy to have read them. I have big plans for the next few weeks, so hopefully my reading slump has largely died.

Currently reading

  • Red Comet by Heather Clark: I am still working my way through this. I considered DNFing it, but I am interested in it. So I’ll persist and listen to it whenever possible.
  • Some of the books I hope to read ASAP: Influence by Sara Sheppard (my second book for round 3 of the Booktube Spin), The Midnight Library by Matt Haig (a buddy read with a coworker – hi, Ashna!), Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See (because Rachel has been telling me to read it for ages and Chelsea recently said to), The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa (thank you, Ashley ♥️♥️) and The Water Cure by Sophie Mackintosh (it is time).

Things watched

  • Survivor: Philippines: I really enjoyed this season! I love Denise and was so thrilled she won, I really enjoyed Malcolm and Jonathan, and I hated Skupin and Lisa but they were entertaining.
  • Survivor: Caramoan: I also really enjoyed this season! It was a ton of fun, I loved the winner, there was so much drama, and it was overall just a great season.
  • Drag Race: All Stars: Season 6: I have yet to watch the finale, but I know who wins this season, and I have a lot of thoughts, so if anyone watched it, please let me know! But overall, this was honestly one of my favourite seasons in a while. I loved the challenges, the runways were all great, and there was a great mix of Queens.
  • Ammonite: shoutout to me for watching this movie, which has two fairly explicit sapphic sex scenes, on an airplane. Good job with that one, babe. Despite the not-great viewing situation, I enjoyed this movie! Don’t think I’d rewatch it, but I’m glad I did watch it.

Other news and highlights

  • This month was a blur, tbh. There were some very high highs and some pretty low lows.
  • I had brunch with my family, and we went to the dog park, which was great. It’s been a while since we had a day to hang out as a family, so that was nice.
  • I did my first guilty plea in court! I know this is a weird highlight, but it was pretty exciting. I did the guilty plea and disposition for a guy pleading guilty to a DUI, and he got the best deal possible, so it was as good as to be expected. The only thing was I didn’t say his name on the record, I said that I was acting as a friend for Mr. Friend. So ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  • I had a couple great days in court with my articling BFF Dalal, and they were a lot of fun (as fun as court can be).
  • I had a couple good bitch sessions with different friends, which I know seems like another weird high, but it’s helpful sometimes okay.
  • We had a virtual happy hour at work, and I got a charcuterie board, and it was a lot of fun!
  • My biggest highlight of the month was the book swap I did with some of my dearest book friends! Rachel assigned everyone in our group chat a person to send a book, and then we all hung out on zoom and opened our packages and guessed who sent us our book. It was so fun, and Ashley got me The Memory Police by Yoko Ogawa, which I have been wanting to read for AGES and was such a perfect pick. Thank you so much to Rachel and Ashley and everyone else for making it literally the highlight of my month. I will cherish the chaotic zoom recording for the rest of my life.

How was your September? What have you read this month? Have you watched anything recently? Let me know!

  1. I loved The Midnight Lie! I think it’s a book you have to be in the mood for though. Are you watching Drag Race UK season 3? UK Drag Race is so, so funny.
