Series I actually want to read and finish

Happy Friday, friends! I hope you’ve been having a great week so far.

Today, I’m going to be talking about some series I want to read and finish. I’m typically not a huge series reader; I tend to like standalones so I don’t have to commit to reading multiple books. But there are some series that I’m intrigued enough by to want to read them all. Often, this happens after I read the first book. But, if it’s a duology (a series with two books), I usually mentally commit to reading both books. I think two books is the perfect amount of books for a series, don’t @ me.

So, let’s talk about some series!

Series I’ve already started

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor: I have book 2 for this series, Muse of Nightmares, on my 2021 TBR, so I’ll hopefully read it this year. I really loved Strange the Dreamer when I read it, and am super excited to see how the duology ends.

The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Adhieh: I’m currently reading this book (will hopefully be finished by the time this post is live!) and loving it. I am definitely intrigued enough that I’ll be reading the sequel, and already have it on hold at the library.

The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang: I finally read the Poppy War and, like everyone, loved it. I am super excited for where the series seems to be going, and will definitely be picking up the rest of the books in the (hopefully near) future.

Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan: I also read this book last year, and really enjoyed it. There’s just something about fantasy and romance, and this was sapphic and also very interesting. So I’m excited to see where it goes and how it wraps up.

Series I want to start

Flame in the Mist by Renee Adhieh: I tried to read this a couple of years ago when my insomnia was terrible one night, and it wasn’t working. BUT that was definitely on me, not the book, and I’m still super intrigued by this book.

Cold Magic by Kate Elliott: this sounds like everything I would like. It’s fantasy with a MARRIAGE OF CONVENIENCE to real lovers, so I obviously have to read it at some point.

The Neapolitan Novels by Elena Ferrante: everyone and their mom seems to have read and love Ferrante’s work, and these sound right up my alley. This series also just seems like something where you have to read every book, not just the first one.

These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong: I’ve heard a ton of good things about this book, even from people I know offline. It sounds really intriguing, and I definitely want to see what the hype is.

The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin: I bought one of my best friends this book for Christmas a couple of years ago, and I think she, along with everyone else, loved it. And now it’s being made into a series, so I’m really excited to read it!

Criers Way by Nina Varela: all I know about this series is that it’s a sapphic fantasy, but that’s all I really need to know tbh. I’ve heard a lot of great things, so I have high hopes.

So there are some series that I want to finish and read! What about you? Have you read any of these? Which should I read first? Which of the ones I’ve started should I finish first? Let me know!

And don’t forget to join us for round 4 of graphics-a-thon, happening June 21 to 27!

    1. I tried reading Flame in the Mist a while ago and had trouble getting into it, but I was also trying to read it while dealing with insomnia so I think it was the insomnia rather than the book 😅😅

These Violent Delights sounds so good! Hopefully we both enjoy it when we get to it
