Hello, friends! I hope you’re doing well on this lovely Friday.
Today, I’m posting a bit of a book haul. Given the pandemic, I spend most of my time looking at a screen. I do classes online, I do my readings online, I read a lot of ebooks. Between my laptop and phone, my screen time is ~13 hours per day, so, unsurprisingly, I’ve been having pretty bad headaches. And because I’m at my apartment, not my parents’ home, I don’t have most of my books. So, I recently decided to buy some physical books to give my eyes a bit of a break.
Also, it was recently my birthday! And my friend and boyfriend got me some books, because they know me so well. So I thought I’d share the books I recently bought and received!
Books I bought myself
The Project by Courtney Summers: this book is on my 2021 TBR, and I’m really excited for it. It sounds like so many things I would love, namely cults and investigative journalism. I have a couple of books on hold from the library that I want to read ASAP, but this will likely be my next read!
Grown by Tiffany D. Jackson: this was a bit of a purchase on a whim. I needed another book to get free shipping, and this one was available and I’m really intrigued by it and I think the cover is super pretty. I’ve heard a ton of good things, so I’m really excited to read it!
The Gallery of Unfinished Girls by Lauren Karcz: this is also on my 2021 TBR, and I was having a hard time getting ahold of a copy, and the hardback was only a couple dollars more expensive than the ebook. So I bought the hardback. I’m also SO excited to read this (finally).
The One by John Marrs: my local drugstore was selling a mass market paperback of this book, which I’d had my eye on for a while, so I bought it on a whim. I read it in 24 hours while I had a terrible headache, and I’m so happy I’ve finally read it. It was so good, and I highly recommend it. I’ll probably be sending this to my friend, Shadi (so Shadi, pretend you haven’t read this).
Books I got as gifts
Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers: my boyfriend got me this book for my birthday, and I’m SO EXCITED TO READ IT. I think this might actually be my next read because it sounds so good and so interesting, and I’ve heard so many good things. Plus, it’s a very pretty book.
Circe by Madeline Miller: my best friend Shadi sent me this book for my birthday, and I’m super excited to read it! I’ve heard so many good things about it over the years, and Shadi really loved it, so I’m excited to have a copy to read.
Disability Visibility edited by Alice Wong: Shadi also got me this because she saw me talk about it a few weeks ago and thought I’d like a physical copy, so thanks Shadi 🥰🥰 I’m super excited to read it, so maybe I’ll start reading an essay per day or something.
So there are some books I’ve received recently! Have you read any of these? What were your thoughts? Have you also been struggling with doing everything on screens? Let me know!
