WWW Wednesday: August 19

Happy Wednesday, everyone! I thought today, I’d do a last minute WWW Wednesday. post to update you on my reading (which is more or less non-existent currently) WWW Wednesday is a meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. All you do is answer the three questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think you’ll read next?

So without further ado, let’s talk about the books I’ve been reading!

What are you currently reading?

I’m currently reading She Would be King by Wayétu Moore, which I am really enjoying! It’s super interesting and really well written, and I highly recommend it. I’m also listening to the audiobook for I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara, which is fantastic. I’m really enjoying. I also read the first chapter of Felix Ever After by Kacen Callendar and am definitely intrigued! I’m finding the writing a little juvenile in some ways, but I think this will be an enjoyable read overall.

What did you recently finish reading?

Sister Outsider by Audre Lorde (4 stars): I really enjoyed these essays overall! They were really well-written and interesting, and Lorde has a lot to say about feminism and racism, among other things. One thing I find really interesting is how Lorde’s feminist theory is spoken about so frequently, but her racist theory really isn’t at all. She writes at length about white feminism, colorism, raising a Black man, systemic issues in academia and policing. She covers way more than simple feminism, and I think her essays on racism were really where she stands out.

You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle (3.5 stars): I also enjoyed this fun little romance. It was dumb but entertaining, which is all I wanted. My biggest issue was that Hogle didn’t fully commit to the idea. This book was pitched as a couple who both want out of their marriage trying to get the other to withdraw first. And it starts out like that, but at one point, the love interest is like, “I’ve been trying to get you to fall back in love with me the whole time”, when he very clearly wasn’t. So that made the narrative incohesive at times. But, I’d still recommend this if you want a fun romance.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I really don’t know! I’m in a bit of a reading slump at the moment, so I’m trying to decide what I’d like to read next. Hopefully one of the books from my August reading plans, but we’ll see!

That’s all for today! Have you read any of these books? What are you currently reading? Let me know!

Thanks for reading! xx

  1. I’m currently reading Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow (a fun middle grade fantasy) and So You Want to Talk About Race. Both are enjoyable, though for obviously different reasons!

Best of luck getting out of your reading slump. Sometimes “dumb but entertaining” books are perfect for that.
