An anticipated releases post (???)

Hello, friends and book lovers! Yes, today I am doing an anticipated releases post. Do I read new releases? Rarely. Do I know when books are being published? Never. Do I add books to my TBR because I like the title? Absolutely. Have at least a third of these books already been published? Yes.

But that’s not stopping me from writing a blog post about new books I’m excited for! This is also one of the first posts I’ve actually written in weeks, so that’s fun and exciting!

Black Girl Unlimited by Echo Brown (January, 2020): this book just sounds really lovely and sounds a lot like something I would love. And, the cover is absolutely stunning. I mean, look at that. How gorgeous is it? The colours, the font, the painting style. Amazing.

Little Gods by Meng Jin (January, 2020): this book also sounds like a lot of things I would love. Maybe magical realism? Family dynamics? China? Sign me up.

Real Life by Brandon Taylor (February, 2020): honestly, I just really like Brandon on Twitter and Roxane Gay gave this a glowing review. It also sounds very up my alley, though, and I cannot wait to read it.

Follow Me by Kathleen Barber (February, 2020): tbh I don’t really know how this ended up on my TBR. But, it sounds very intense and like something I’d love. I’ve mentioned several times recently that I love books about women spiralling downwards, and this one sounds like it has the potential to be that.

My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russel (March, 2020): this book has been getting a ton of attention (and some controversy) lately, but I am so excited to read it. It sounds right up my alley and very timely and impactful.

The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel (March, 2020): I still have not read Station Eleven by Mandel, but hopefully very soon (i.e. next week). But, I have heard enough good things about it to add this one to my TBR early.

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins (May, 2020): I know everyone is sad about this, but I do not care. I am excited.

I Killed Zoe Spanos by Kit Frick (June, 2020): this sounds so interesting and I need a copy now. I really loved Sadie, and this sounds in a similar vein, which I am very here for. Also, another gorgeous cover.

Influence by Sara Shepard and Lilia Buckingham (June, 2020): what’s this? Another story about a woman unravelling on social media? On my TBR? It’s more likely than you think. I added this one kind of on a whim, but I think it sounds very interesting and also kind of easy to read.

So, those are some books I am anticipating! What about you? Are there any books you’re excited for? Any of these? Which of these is your favourite cover? Let me know!

  1. Omg I’m so excited for you to read Station Eleven!!!!

Little Gods was fantastic. I’m not sure I’d describe it as magical realism though. It’s mostly straight up literary historical fiction but there’s a bit of a focus on metaphysics? It’s a hard book to explain. I hope you like it!

I cannot WAIT for Real Life and My Dark Vanessa!
