Recommendations for… fast-paced books

Happy Monday, everyone! Even though I participate in giving Monthly Recommendations, I thought I would start my own where every couple weeks I give recommendations for a specific topic (also Monthly Recommendations has been dead lately so).

Today I’m doing recommendations for fast-paced books. If you need a few quick books to read to finish off your reading challenges this year, I have some of everything.

Young Adult

Unwind by Neal Shusterman: this is a fast-paced, interesting YA dystopian/sci-fi novel. It has such an interesting premise and a lot of really cool and interesting topics. There’s a lot of action and different things that happen, without feeling rushed. I cannot recommend this book enough.

Nimona by Noelle Stevenson: this is a graphic novel, which makes it fairly quick to read, and I want everyone to read it. Nimona is just the best protagonist, and it has the “taking down the corrupt government” trope, which is my favourite. And it has a gay forbidden romance!

Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder: I have talked about this book to death on my blog, so if you’re not convinced to read it yet, idk what else to tell you. But if you want a fun, quick-paced fantasy with a badass female protagonist and interesting premise, this is for you.

The Beka Cooper Trilogy by Tamora Pierce: this is me just continuing my “everyone should read Tamora Pierce 2020” campaign. Obviously this whole trilogy would take you a while to read, but each individual book is action-packed and fast-paced. And it has a heart-breaking ending.

The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness:

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline:

Adult

The Butterfly Garden by Dot Hutchinson: if weird, somewhat disturbing adult thrillers are your thing, this is the book for you. It’s really weird and messed up, but also super interesting. It goes by really quickly and ends up being a fast read.

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch: if you want interesting sci-fi, this is for you. It’s a little science-focused, but Crouch does a good job explaining everything and not making it super heavy. And there’s a ton of action, so it keeps you reading. Think “kind of shitty but entertaining nonetheless” action movie.

The 7 & 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton: though I had some issues with this book, I can’t deny that it was incredibly interesting and readable. If you want something that will hook you, this is the one.
