Happy Thursday, everyone! Welcome to this week’s Thursday Discussion. Essentially, this is a biweekly meme where you write a post based on the prompt for that week. The post can be as long or as short as you want, and you can talk about as much or as little as you want. Visit this page for the upcoming topics! It happens every other week, and I generally post the topics a month(ish) in advance.
This week the topic is books that made you laugh out loud. Being totally honest, I don’t really laugh a ton while reading. I do the *nose blow* laugh, but not usually actual laughing. But these are some books that made me actually laugh.
The 100 Year-Old Man who Climbed out the Window and Walked Away by Jonas Jonasson: look, this book is ridiculous, but it has some iconic parts. The elephant? The Violins? It’s so good.
The Dog Who Wouldn’t Be by Farley Mowat: there are so many good parts in this book. One time, my brother, my mom and I made each other cry laughing at the dinner table talking about the scene where Mowat’s mother gets into an argument with Mutt on the street. My sister and dad were like,,,,, k guess we have to read this book now to figure out what’s going on.
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett: the dolphins scene. The plant scene. The Them. The other horse man of the apocalypse. Newt Scammander. There are so many funny parts in this book. If you can’t read the book, the Amazon Prime TV is the most accurate adaptation of anything ever.
Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella: I just love this book. It’s so sweet and funny and innocent but not. It’s so good. I highly recommend it if you need a good laugh.
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuinston: omg this book was so cute. And also so funny?? No one told me how funny this was, but it was adorable and I’m obsessed and understand the hype now.
So those are five books that have made me laugh! Have you read any of these? What books make you laugh? Are you similar to me in that you never laugh at books? Let me know!
Ally xx
I loved the 100 Year Old Man, though subsequent novels by the same author were less brilliant.

That’s what I’ve heard! I think we have a copy of one of his other books, but I haven’t even really thought about reading it. The 100 Year Old Man was good enough

I’m currently reading Good Omens, but I haven’t gotten to any of the things you mentioned yet. It’s my bedtime read right now — hopefully I won’t laugh loudly enough to wake up Mr. Wyrm! 😉
The book that made me laugh the most was Squirrel Terror by Lilith Saintcrow. It’s absolutely hysterical, and fun and poignant and all the feels all at once. So much fun.

That’s fair! I know a lot of people who struggled with it, honestly.

The Dog Eno Wouldn’t Be is a classic. And the Hundred Year Old Man is really funny if you just go with it. I found some parts of The Martian made me laugh unexpectedly. Very dry humor.

Yes, I can’t believe I forgot the Martian! It’s so good and so funny

I haven’t read Good Omens yet, but the series was so goddamn good. How is the book?

The book is so good, and they’re very similar! I think if you enjoyed the series, you’d enjoy the book too. Neil Gaiman wrote both, so they have a very similar feel
