Hi, friends! Ages ago, I did the Try a Chapter book tag where I read the first chapter or two of a few books and gave my first impressions of them. I thought it would be fun to revisit that, and see if I’ve read the books and what my thoughts were in the end.
Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
When I posted the original tag of this, I had actually finished reading this book. I said
It ended up being four stars, and I loved every minute of it!
That’s still true, I did love every minute of it. My final review is now up, so you can go read that here if you’re interested in my full thoughts!
Moxie by Jennifer Mathieu
First impressions: pretty much how I expected it to start, if that makes sense? I read the first two chapters because they were both short, and it does a good job setting up the characters and story.
Prediction: four stars, probably.
I believe I ended up giving this book 4 stars, which I predicted! I thought it was a great introduction to feminism, and I’d definitely recommend it to YA readers who want that. I’ve also reviewed this book now, though it was just a mini review.
The Leavers by Lisa Ko
First impressions: I read the first chapter and a half, and it was interesting! The first chapter was so good, and then the first half of the second chapter was good too. I put it down to have dinner, and never picked it up though, so idk what that says.
Prediction: I’m honestly not sure. I think this could be a case where it’s really well-written, but not all that interesting, if that makes sense? So probably 3-4 stars.
So,,,, yeah. I still haven’t read this book. I still haven’t picked it up from when I put it down to have dinner. idk what that says about the book, but it’s definitely still on my TBR! I just need to actually read it.
The Translation of Love by Lynne Kutsukake
First impressions: the first two chapters were so good! I’m already invested in the characters and want them to succeed and be okay.
Prediction: 4-5 stars!
I think I ended up giving this book 3.5 stars because the ending sucked. Everything was resolved too nicely, and it was just frustrating because the rest of the book was fantastic. I go into it a bit more in my review, if you want to read that!
So there we have it! I was fairly spot-on with my predictions for these books, which I’m pretty proud of. But anyway, have you read any of these? What were your thoughts? Do you agree with me at all? Let me know!

This seems like a good way to dwindle down my tbr even more so I can get rid of the books that don’t hook me.

It definitely is! It’s a good way to try a bunch of books and see whether you’re interested in them

Completely agree about the Translation of Love. So many great things about the book. The end is not one of them!
