Happy Thursday, everyone! Welcome to this week’s Thursday Discussion. Essentially, this is a biweekly meme where you write a post based on the prompt for that week. The post can be as long or as short as you want, and you can talk about as much or as little as you want. Visit this page for the upcoming topics! It happens every other week, and I generally post the topics a month(ish) in advance.
In contrast to last week, this week the topic is favourite books by male authors. I just love talking about books that I love, so these are some books on my Goodreads favourites list (come say hi!) that are by female authors!
The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman: I love this entire trilogy, even though I’ve only read it once. It’s high on my to-reread list because I loved it so much the first time around.
Looking for Alaska by John Green: Looking for Alaska is by far my favourite John Green novel. I just think it’s special and better than his other ones ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I am the Messenger by Markus Zusak: okay I know this book has it’s issues, but I just love it, okay? Every time I reread it, I expect to not like it, and yet I love it just as much as the first time.
Life of Pi by Yann Martel: I wasn’t expecting to like this book when I first read it, but it’s one of my favourites. I just love Pi and think he’s just a great MC.
Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov: Lolita is one of the most beautifully written books I’ve ever read, and I love it so much. I have yet to reread it, but I definitely want to soon.
Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates: this book is just amazing and one of those books I think everyone should read. Honestly, please read it.
So those are some of my favourite books by male authors! Have you read any of these? What were your thoughts? What are some of your favourite books by male authors? Let me know!

Lolita is a great choice! My faves by men are probably Bird Box by Josh Malerman (obv) and All We Shall Know by Donal Ryan, but I also love H.G. Wells and John Wyndham.

Thank you! I still need to read Bird Box and All We Shall Know. I read HG Wells for uni and really enjoyed him!

One of my favorite books is NPCs, and it’s written by a male author, Drew Hayes. I would have to include Tolkien’s The Hobbit on any list of my favorite books by male authors also, as well as Norton Juster’s The Phantom Tollbooth. Great post! I love highlighting favorite books of all kinds. 🙂

I haven’t read many books my male authors lately! One male author I only discovered this year is Malcolm Gladwell, he writes so well ❤

Oooh my parents love Malcolm Gladwell, and I’ve been meaning to read his books for ages! Which do you recommend starting with?

I have only read one of his essay collections, What the Dog Saw, which is a great way to sample his interests and get to know his writing style.

This is really interesting! Some of my favorite authors are males. Kurt Vonnegut, Fredrik Backman, Neil Gaiman, Jason Reynolds, Andrew Smith, Ian McEwan. Just some I can think of.
