Thursday discussion: favourite books by female authors

Happy Thursday, everyone! Welcome to this week’s Thursday Discussion. Essentially, this is a biweekly meme where you write a post based on the prompt for that week. The post can be as long or as short as you want, and you can talk about as much or as little as you want. Visit this page for the upcoming topics! It happens every other week, and I generally post the topics a month(ish) in advance.

This week the topic is favourite books by female authors. I just love talking about books that I love, so these are some books on my Goodreads favourites list (come say hi!) that are by female authors!

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid: we all know that I love this book a lot. Everyone loves this book a lot. But if, by some miracle, you haven’t read this book yet, please do!

Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder: I can’t help it. I just love this book so much. I reread it recently and loved it just as much as the first few times. My sister and I were talking about it recently, and she said the romance in this one is probably her favourite book romance ever.

The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls: The Glass Castle was the first memoir I read, and it’s remained my favourite (not that I’ve read many). I reread it every couple of years, and always feel like I read a new book. It’s just so special.

The Female of the Species by Mindy McGinnis: I just think this book is so important and so well done. I really enjoyed it when I read it a couple of years ago and highly recommend it.

Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng: this book! is so good! I never wanted to stop reading it. It was just so perfect and beautiful. I will read anything Celeste Ng writes.

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath: I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did, but it’s so good. Plath just writes so honestly and I connected with the main character so much on so many different things.

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie: this is my all-time favourite mystery, and it’s so good. If you need a good mystery novel, please read this one.

So those are some of my favourite books by female authors! Have you read any of these? What were your thoughts? What are some of your favourite books by female authors? Let me know!

  1. I really like Poison Study and And Then There Were None, too! My current favorite author (of any gender, though she does happen to be female) is Seanan McGuire and my favorite series of hers is either Indexing or the Wayward Children series. Don’t make me pick between the two, though! 😉

  2. I was starting to think I wouldn’t know any of your chosen authors, but luckily all the final 3 I knew even if Ive not read these particular books. My favourites? Middlemarch by George Eliot, Bring up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel and Do Not Say we Have Nothing by Madeline Thien all rise to the top

  3. Omg I have almost all of these on my TBR & I really need to get around to reading them bc I’ve heard fantastic things about all of them! Esp Female of the Species – I think I had it in my cart at one stage & then decided I needed to save some money then completely forgot about it!! 😭

  4. Such a good range of books….a little bit of everything.

Alice Hoffman, Geraldine Brooks, Anita Diamant, Ami McKay are also good reads for me. So many great women authors…..
