Happy Tuesday! The wonderful Sahi tagged me to do this tag, and it seemed like a lot of fun! Essentially, you spell your name with books on your TBR. Since “Ally” is really short, I thought I’d do my full name, Aleksandra.
All My Puny Sorrows by Mirian Toews: it’s one of my goals for 2020 (planning ahead) is to read more books by Canadian authors, and this is a modern classic. So I need to read it soon.
Lab Girl by Hope Jahren: I did a STEM undergrad, and have heard really good things about this book. I think I might get it for my mom for Christmas (don’t tell her that (mommy, if you’re reading, ignore this)).
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer: to be totally honest, I just love the title of this book.
Keep Sweet by Michele Domínguez Greene: I think this one is about a cult? Or an oppressive religion? Either way, a topic that I love reading.
Saving Fish From Drowning by Amy Tan: this is another Canadian author, and I bought this one from a used book sale earlier this summer. I’m super excited to read it!
All the Names They Used for God by Anjali Sachdeva: this is another one that I just love the title of.
Not That Bad by Roxanne Gay: I still haven’t read any Roxanne Gay, and I really need to soon.
Descendant of the Crane by Joan He: I’ve heard so many good things about this fantasy, and it sounds amazing. Also the cover is gorgeous and I’m always looking for diverse fantasy.
Rust & Stardust by T. Greenwood: a kidnapping? Based on a true story? With a title based on one of my favourite quotes? Yes please.
Asking For It by Louise O’Neil: a feminist book about rape culture? Again, yes please.
I’m tagging: Rebecca, Sarah, and Nicole, but as always, no pressure!
Thanks again, Sahi, for the tag! Have you read any of these? What were your thoughts? Let me know!
Ally xx
What a great list of books! I also love the title Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close :p I’m glad I’m not alone in choosing books to read for fun titles. Happy reading!

I don’t think I have ever seen Aleksandra spelled like that but I like it! Is it Scandinavian? Asking For It is my favorite YA book that I have ever read but man is it brutal. So, ‘enjoy’ is not the right word but I hope you… find it worthwhile reading??? Also I just placed an order for All My Puny Sorrows, I’ve heard such great things about it!

Thank you! My dad is Serbian (he’d say Yugoslavian if you ask, but Serbian specifically), but I think it’s spelled with the ks in some Scandinavian countries, too.
LOL that’s fair. It’s always hard to enjoy books about rape, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy having read it? I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on All My Puny Sorrows! Have you read anything by Toews before?

Wow, I haven’t read any of those! I do have several other of Amy Tan’s works on my TBR (and I’ve read her Joy Luck Club) but that’s the closest I can come!
This looks like a fun tag! I’ll let you know when I post it… but it may be a while. I have a bunch already scheduled at the moment. 🙂

I didn’t realise that’d she’d written Joy Luck Club for,,,, an embarrassingly long time.
No worries!! Looking forward to seeing your answers when you get around to it!

You do like giving yourself a challenge – I did this last year and had a hard time coming up with something for K (as in Karen)

Lol what can I say, I like making things more difficult for myself. K is definitely a tricky letter. I can’t think of any books off the top of my head that start with it

We would have to cheat a little and go for Anna Karenina or What Katy Did….

Haven’t read All My Punny Sorrows by Miriam Toews, but recently read Women Talking and enjoyed it. Will be interested to hear your thoughts on AMPS to help me decide whether to check it out!

I read Women Talking earlier this year, too, and really enjoyed it, too!
Thank you!

First of all, I love your full name. Aleksandra is so gorgeous.
Anyways, Keep Sweet sounds like something I’d like to read because of the topic. Cults and oppressive religious groups are just a fascinating topic.
I have All the Names They Used for God at my library and I’m always tempted to read it because of that stunning title. Great list! 🙂

Lovely post, Ally! I haven’t read Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close yet, but I watched some of the movie on Netflix. It definitely sparked my interest! And, I seriously need to read Descendant of the Crane as well! Haha!
