It has been a little while since I participate in Top 5 Tuesday, and I honestly wasn’t sure I was going to be able to do this topic. Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by the lovely Shanah at the Bionic Bookworm. You can visit here for the upcoming topics!

This month, the topics are the alphabet! Essentially, I’m going to be giving you one book for each letter of the alphabet during this month. Today, the letters are FGHIJ.

The Face on the Milk Carton by Caroline B. Cooney: this book had been on my TBR since 2012 and I finally read it this year. I’m super happy I did. It’s an easy-to-read but still interesting MG novel about a girl who’s kidnapped as a kid, but doesn’t find out until she’s about 13. If you like middle grade novels, I would definitely recommend this one.

Gillespie and I by Jane Harris: this book is so underrated and I don’t know why! It’s a really interesting murder mystery/kidnapping story (is this the theme for today lol) that makes you question what you know in the story. It also had a great female protagonist and great female relationships, and I highly recommend it.

Haters by Alisa Valdes: Haters is trash, but I love it nonetheless. This was one of my favourite books as a teenager in junior high. It’s so dumb, and there’s so much wrong with it, but I can’t help but like it. Sorry, not sorry.

I, Coriander by Sally Gardner: this is another criminally underrated book. It’s a MG historical fiction/fantasy/magical realism, and I probably read it legitimately ten times when I was in junior high. There’s just something about it. It’s so magical and fun, but high-stakes and dangerous at the same time. There’s a lot of interesting history in it, too.

John Dies at the End by David Wong: this book holds the title as Weirdest Book I’ve Ever Read and also the type of book I recommend to Those White Boys. You know the ones. But, it’s still,,,, interesting? And I definitely recommend it for a certain type of reader. If you like pretentious, annoying, nerdy narrators, this is definitely for you. Actually, I think if you’ve read Ready Player One and enjoyed it, you’d really like John Dies at the End.

  3. I really had to laugh at your recommendation of John Dies at the End for Ready Player One fans. Since I’ve read Ready Player One, I know *exactly* the type of people you’re talking about. 😀

    (For the record, I enjoyed RPO, but there were way too many issues I had with it for me to consider reading John Dies at the End.)

      I really enjoyed RPO, too! Can’t necessarily say the same about John Dies at the End, but it was an,,, interesting book to have read
