Happy Tuesday everyone!!
It has been a minute and a half since I did a Top Ten Tuesday, which you can learn more about here! Today the topic is books on my summer TBR. I generally don’t do a ton of TBRs because I’m such a mood reader. But I do like making long-term TBRs.
Books from my 2019 TBR I still need to read
Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: tbh, I had forgotten this was on my 2019 TBR. But I definitely want to read it, so hopefully soon!
1Q84 by Haruki Murakami: I recently made it to the halfway point in this book, and I’m so happy! It’s getting really good, so I’m excited to continue it. I want to finish book 2 by the end of the summer.
Books from my top to-read list
The Awakening by Kate Chopin: the audiobook for this is on Spotify, and it’s fairly short, so I think I’m going to listen to it soon.
Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor: I loved Strange the Dreamer last summer, and I really want to read the sequel soon. I have a copy, but my sister is currently reading it so I need to wait for her to finish it.
Books from my owned TBR
The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker: I just want to read this soon so I know what the hype is about. My issue is I haven’t read the Iliad? and I don’t know if that’ll be an issue?
Other books
The Raven Cycle books 2-4 by Maggie Steifvater: I just recently listened to the audiobook for the first book of this series and I loved it so much. I really want to listen to the rest at some point.
Other books probably: I haven’t really thought much about what other books I want to read, and I’m doing pretty good about reading the books I said I was going to for this year. So let me know if you have any recommendations!
So those are some books I want to read this summer! Have you read any of these? Which should I read first? Are there any other books you think I should read? Let me know!

Ahhh I hope you absolutely love Muse of Nightmares, Ally!! I also highly, highly recommend Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. ❤

The Awakening is so good and I hope you enjoy it. Muse of Nightmares is a fantastic sequel and I’m already planning a re-read.

Oooh I keep hearing good things about 1Q84, but I never decided which language to read it in so I’ve not picked it up yet 😂
We don’t have summer so I don’t have summer reads, per se, but I just came back with 5 new books so I’m looking forward to reading that (after I finish my library books)!

LOL that’s fair! I haven’t read it in Japanese, so I can’t comment on it, but the translation is fantastic!
Oooh I hope you enjoy your new books!! 😀

Oooh, I’ve been meaning to re-read The Awakening for a while now. I read it in high school, and remember enjoying it, but I want to revisit it now that I’m older.

I have a copy of The Silence of the Girls but I haven’t read it yet? It looks a bit intimidating haha
I’ve heard good reviews about 1Q84 but I also hear it deals with suicide? While I do want to read it, I know I have to be in a good state of mind for such a book.

SAME I feel like I’ll love it but also I’m worried if I don’t?
1Q84 does have suicide in it (all Murakami books seem to), and there are a couple parts where it’s somewhat graphic (not the suicide itself, but more the aftermath and how the main character deals with it), so I’d definitely be cautious if that’s a trigger. That being said, the suicide is maybe 30 pages of an 1100+ page book, so it’s a fairly small part (at least of what I’ve read), and it’s only mentioned in passing after the one scene. But it also deals with a lot of heavier topics, so I think a good state of mind would be smart.

Have you ever seen the Blob? The horror movie? It sorta like that. Consumes more substances and enlarging itself, becoming a forbidding force of bookworm nightmare
