Ten Bookish Confessions

Hello, everyone! I hope you’re having a wonderful day. Today I’m confessing ten things I’ve done regarding books, thanks to the lovely Ruqs. I’m so sorry about how late this is! If y’all don’t know their blog, you should definitely check it out! Thank you for getting me to confess about how bad of a person I am.

  1. I own some books gifted to me literally about six years ago now that I still haven’t read.
  2. I never use bookmarks. I used to have a really lovely one as a kid and I just kept on losing it. Literally, it was gone for months (turns out it was just under my bed)
  3. I kept on losing the same book at my junior high’s library, so the librarian stopped letting me take out books.
  4. I didn’t read Harry Potter until after all the books were out.
  5. I’m honestly not all that careful with my books? Like, I don’t intentionally try to ruin them, but I’m also not really careful. We definitely have some books that are water-stained, or have sand or horse hair in the pages, and I dog-ear some books.
  6. I’m really dumb when reading and always forget characters names, so I spent half of The 7&1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle thinking two characters were the same person. I always just read the first letter of someone’s name and assume I know it.
  7. I don’t really have a favourite genre. I tend to like books in any genre.
  8. I almost never read new releases. Not because I don’t want to, but mainly because I don’t have a ton of time to read and I don’t buy a lot of books.
  9. I bought my boyfriend a book for our first Christmas together in 2013 and he still hasn’t read it.
  10. I can never really listen to audiobooks because I’m not really an auditory learner. I get too distracted by other things and drift off.

  1. This was so fun to read! I’m so glad I’m not the only one who can’t get on with audiobooks that well. I feel like EVERYONE listens to them but my attention on them is too poor. I can only concentrate on them when I’m doing very particular things otherwise I, too, get too distracted. I want to be able to listen to them, but my mind has other plans 😂

  2. I also have gift books from ages ago that I haven’t read yet. I intend to… just don’t have as much time as I want and haven’t prioritized the gifts. I should do that…

  3. I’ve totally done the character name thing!! In The Night Circus there were a couple characters I consistently mixed up JUST because they’re name started with the same letter. Sometimes I think I need to keep a detailed list of characters on hand at all times.

  4. Re: the not careful with books one: I almost went on a rant about this on Twitter last night but it drives me nuts when people treat books like Sacred Objects to the point where they’ll do an unboxing and there happens to be a TINY rip in the back corner and they just go on and on about it as if it’s a criminal offense like dsjklfdsjklfs omg who cares

    1. omg YES thank you!!!!!! Like obviously I understand not purposely destroying your books, and how they’re important to people who don’t have a lot of money, etc., but like,,,, my man there are more important things for me to worry about than making sure my books are pristine

  5. I DO THE SAME THING WITH CHARACTER NAMES. sometimes I get halfway through a book and suddenly realize I can’t tell two (or more) characters apart because I assumed they were the same person, or I thought I knew which was which, and I always have to contemplate whether to reread with this new world-shattering information 😅 (the answer is usually no. too many books waiting to be read lol)

and honestly I’m the same with books. I take them everywhere, I eat and drink while reading, etc, etc – I’d have to laminate them to keep them pristine, so honestly I’ve long since given up on the struggle. my copy of House of the Scorpion is permanently wavy (like, the whole book. not just a few pages.) from the water damage it sustained at science camp in fifth grade, oops.

    1. OMG I’m so glad I’m not alone!! SAME!! Recently, I read a book where two characters had the same initials for their first AND last names, and when I realised that I had the wrong character in my brain, it was terrible.

And so glad you agree!!!!!!! lmao same about the lamination! My copy of the Goblet of Fire is the same lol

  6. I have lost my bookmark under my bed as well– it just slides down!! But I do still use bookmarks mostly!!
If characters name begin with the same letter it is a real struggle!! haha!!
And I am listening to my first audio book and I definitely have to focus on listening otherwise I will miss parts of the plot but in certain situations I think they are really good for me personally!! 🙂
