The lowest-rated books on my Goodreads

Happy Thursday, everyone! Today, I thought it would be fun to go through and look at which books on my Goodreads Read shelf have the lowest overall ratings and give my thoughts on them!

Also, disclaimer: I’m sorry if you enjoy any of these books. I promise I’m not trying to bash them! Sometimes books just don’t work for people.

Betwixt by Tara Bray Smith (2.57)
My rating: unrated

This book is one of the weirdest books I’ve ever read. I remember just being very confused while reading it and not understanding it at all. There’s so much that happens and none of it really makes sense. I think I read it when I was too young, but reading the reviews on Goodreads, it seems like everyone feels the same way.

Wentworth Hall by Abby Grahame (2.87)
My rating: 2 stars

This book wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t good either. It was completely predictable — none of the revelations were shocking or inspired or something I hadn’t seen before or couldn’t have guessed. I felt like I’d read this book a thousand times. It was kind of like Gossip Girl but very watered down (and I’ve never even seen Gossip Girl). Actually, the drama was more like Degrassi, tbh.

40 Things I Want to Tell You by Alice Kuipers (3.25)
My rating: 2 stars

In all honesty, I don’t remember much of this book. I remember the general happenings and premise and ending, but it didn’t leave a lasting impression. I remember finishing it and feeling kind of unsatisfied? It was okay, just not great. I think I was also too old for it when I read it, and yet it deals with a lot of more mature topics? Like sex and teenage pregnancy and drugs and love and stuff. Things I’d generally associated with older YA or young NA. But it felt very much like young YA so idk.

Fury by Elizabeth Miles (3.28)
My rating: 2 stars

Again, I don’t remember much of this book. I didn’t end up continuing the series, so I clearly wasn’t that invested in it. I remember random happenings and scenes in this book, but I couldn’t tell you the overall plot or what was supposed to be happening. I tried to re-read it last summer and just couldn’t get into it.

Butterface by Gwen Hayes (3.33)
My rating: 3 stars

I remember this was a short story or novella and also the first time I’d heard the term “butterface.” I don’t remember much about the story, but I must have liked it okay enough to rate it 3 stars. I think it was one of those cases of it being fine; like, the writing was fine and the story was fine (considering it was a short story/novella) and the characters were fine, but that’s about it. Not bad, but also not great or groundbreaking. I feel like if I were to reread it now, I would rate it lower.

So those are some of the lowest-rated books on Goodreads that I’ve read! Have you read any of these? What were your thoughts? Do you plan on reading any of them? Let me know!

Thanks for reading! xx
