It has been a little while since I participate in Top 5 Tuesday, and I honestly wasn’t sure I was going to be able to do this topic. Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by the lovely Shanah at the Bionic Bookworm. You can visit here for the upcoming topics!

This week, the topic is Top 5 books set in space. All making this list told me is that I need to read more books set in space, so please drop your recommendations below!!!!! I somehow managed to pull five out of my ass, though (even if one of them is a bit of a stretch).

The Martian by Andy Weir

I feel like this will be on a lot of lists this week because it takes place largely on Mars and in space. But it’s one of the funniest books I’ve ever read. If you need any audiobook recommendations, I cannot recommend this one enough. The narrator does an amazing job.

Red Rising by Pierce Brown

I feel like this will also be on a lot of lists this week. This is basically Game of Thrones + the Hunger Games + space, and it’s amazing. I highly recommend this series if you love sci-fi and fantasy.

Starclimber by Kenneth Oppel

This (from what I remember) takes place on route to the moon, and some shit goes down. Honestly, I don’t remember a ton from this book. I loved the first two in the trilogy, and then read this one because I loved them so much. But it’s set in space, so it’s here!

Acorna: The Unicorn Girl by Anne McCaffrey and Margaret Ball

Okay this book is a little weird, but essentially it’s about a part-girl, part-unicorn who is semi-adopted by three men. It sounds weird, it is weird, but it’s also great. I loved unicorns as a kid, and this one was a lot of fun.

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

This one is the stretch because they never actually go to space, but they might as well have in one of the scenarios. I feel like it was sci-fi enough to be on this list, but sorry if it isn’t space-y enough!

  4. I really liked Redshirts by John Scalzi, which is a fun book that’s got a lot of Star Trek parody in it, but not so much as to get annoying. That’s the only book I’ve read this year so far which has been set actually in space, but All Systems Red (Murderbot Diaries #1) by Martha Wells involves space travel (which happens in between the action you see) and I enjoyed it a lot too.
