Top 5 Tuesday: books that need to be a movie

It has been a hot minute since I participate in Top 5 Tuesday, and I’ve missed it! Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by the lovely Shanah at the Bionic Bookworm. You can visit here for the upcoming topics!

This week, the topic is Top 5 books that need to be a movie, which is such a great topic!

Unwind by Neal Shusterman

This is a YA dystopian/sci-fi and I think it would make such a great action-packed movie. Honestly, when I was reading it, I could picture some of the scenes so clearly. I think it would work so well as a movie. Think the Maze Runner-esque.

The Lost Girls by Heather Young

If I could only have one book made into a movie and have it be exactly as I picture it, it would probably be this book. I can just picture it so well. It would be super atmospheric and suspenseful and great.

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

Hear me out, but this could be such a good movie. I can picture the lake house and I feel like the plot twist could be so well done.

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

This would be a great Tom Cruise-esque action movie. It’s written pretty much like an action movie, and I think it would translate really well. I think someone told me it’s being made into a miniseries? So that’s exciting.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

Okay maybe I take what I said about the Lost Girls back. IMAGINE THIS AS A MOVIE. But it would have to be perfectly done. I would love a *hint* of Wes Anderson magic, you know? Like I love how he’s kind of like “fuck the laws of physics and realism” but only just a little. I feel like that would work so well for this book. But it would have to be darker than his other movies (because even though his movies have dark themes, they’re often presented as cheery, whereas this book is a bit more moody).

So those are five books I think would make great movies, and that I need a movie of ASAP as possible thanks. What are your thoughts? Do you think any of these would make good movies? Any other movies you can think of? Let me know!!

  1. Dark Matter and The Night Circus were on my original list that I linked as well! Whenever I think of books that need to be made into a movie, these two are at the top!! Dark Matter would be really hard to do I think……. A lot of computer and technology for all the “characters” if you know what I mean lol

“fuck the laws of physics and realism” but only just a little….. OMG I’m dying laughing right now! But yet you somehow captured my thoughts and feelings about how this movie needs to be made lol!!!

    1. So glad you agree!!! I totally agree, I think it’d be hard to do, especially near the end. But if it was done well, it’d be awesome.

Hahaha thank you! Right?? It’s supposed to be magical realism, so there has to be some element of realism

  2. 2019 is going to be the year of Neal Shusterman for me. I haven’t read anything of him yet, but already have a few on the 2019 TBR (and my bookshelf.) I wasn’t blown away by Dark Matter, but I do think it has a great premise for the big screen. I just think they need to reveal the “big twist” earlier because it was too obvious.

  3. I haven’t read the others yet, but I agree that Night Circus needs to be made into the *right* kind of movie. I’m afraid, though, that if they do make a movie of it, they’ll make the romance too big. Yes, the circus is essentially a love letter between the two players, but it’s so subtle and Hollywood doesn’t often do subtle romance well. Fingers crossed, though.
