The Sunshine Blogger Award

I’m back today with another awards post! Today we’re doing the Sunshine Blogger Award, which I’m writing largely to procrastinate studying for my final on Monday. Someone please help me.

I was tagged for this award by the lovely Kiersten and Rachel, both of whom are two of my favourites. Thank you both for the tag, and (as always), I’m sorry this is so late! And sorry in advance for the long post!

The Rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you in a blog post and link back to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions the blogger asked you.
  • Nominate 11 new blogs to receive the award and ask them 11 new questions
  • List the rules and display the sunshine blogger award logo in your post/or on your blog.

Questions from Kiersten

If you’re happy and you know it, do you clap your hands?

Which fictional character probably has the best shoe collection?

I feel like Effie Trinket has a pretty great shoe collection. Knowing her style, they’d be super out there.

Do you believe in nargles?

Honestly, there’s a small part of me that always wants to believe that magic and fairies and things like that are real, so yes.

(aliens are real, don’t @ me)

If you could have coffee (or tea, if you prefer) would any fictional character, who would you choose?

I would love to have coffee with Sirius Black, honestly. He’s just my favourite (as we all know).

Are you a fan of animal sidekicks in books?

Depends on the book! For fantasy, I like them and think they’re great. For other genres, not really.

Where is my cake? I was told there would be cake.

The cake is a lie. I’m sorry your had to hear it from me.

If you could turn any movie into a book, which one would you choose?

I’ve said it before, but The Lost Girls by Heather Young would make SUCH a good movie.

What book has had the biggest impact on your life?

I don’t know, honestly. There are so many books I love and think have influenced who I am as a person, but I can’t think of one that stands out.

Which fictional character would you choose to write a guest post for your blog?

Which fictional world would  be the worst to live in?

Panem from the Hunger Games would be terrible.

(throwback to when I did this topic as a Top Ten Tuesday, and someone commented “thanks, I needed to know this”, which is still the funniest comment I’ve ever gotten)

What’s your biggest pet peeve?

Like in life? I hate when people complain about things they could very easily fix and just refuse to. Like

“I’m hungry”
“We’re literally sitting in a house with food, get food”
“I don’t want to ruin my dinner” *continues complaining for the next 25 minutes until dinner*

Like, you can complain once about it to say that you’re hungry, but once you’ve complained, stop. We know. Either fix it or suck it up and stop complaining.

Questions from Rachel

What’s the worst book you had to read for school?

In grade 10, we read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime by Mark Haddon, and while I didn’t dislike it, I also didn’t like it as much as the other books we studied. I was fairly lucky in that my teachers were fairly progressive and tried to get us to read interesting books, so I read a lot of great books. And this was the worst of them.

Within your own country, where would you most like to visit that you haven’t already been?

I’ve been fortunate enough to visit almost everywhere I’ve wanted to in Canada, but I’ve never been to the North. I really want to go to the Territories.

What’s the best first line of a book you’ve ever read?

Okay I never remember first lines so I just googled “best first lines” and have now read so many first lines. There’s so many good ones but I think my favourite is:

“I’m pretty much fucked.” — The Martian by Andy Weir

Runner up: “There was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it.” — The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by CS Lewis

Do you have any tattoos and do you want any?

I don’t have any, but I want a bunch. I’m just too chicken to get any. I think my siblings and I are going to get matching mountains at some point, with three mountains because there’s three of us and we love the mountains. I also want one for each of my horses (#horsegirl). And then I want a Spirited Away one with my best friend Charlotte, and one with my other best friend. AND THEN I think I want “I am, I am, I am” somewhere because I am #basic

If you watch booktube, who’s your favourite booktuber?  If you don’t watch booktube, what’s your favourite thing to watch on youtube?

I don’t watch a ton of booktube so I don’t really have a favourite. I like to watch commentary channels on Youtube because I like drama and also a lot of them are funny. I recently discovered Tiffany Ferg, and she does great videos. Highly recommend her. She does these “internet analysis” videos and they’re so well thought out and interesting.

Which classic do you think more people should read?

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. It was just so good.

What would you consider the most overhyped and the most underhyped book you’ve read in the last year?

I feel like that new Sarah J Maas book was SO hyped. Also honestly to be honest, this year has felt so long that I don’t remember which books came out this year. In terms of underhyped, I feel like Pachinko wasn’t as hyped as it should’ve been (unless I missed it).

Would you like to work in the publishing industry, or do you prefer to keep books and reading strictly a hobby?

Honestly, I love editing papers and such, so I think I wouldn’t mind working in editing. But, it’s not my career aspiration either.

If you’re a writer, which author’s style do you think is most similar to your own?  If you’re not a writer, which author’s style do you connect with the most as a reader?

I really like Celeste Ng’s style, from the one book of her’s that I read. It’s so flowy without being trashy, you know?

What’s your least favourite book cover?

book-cover-the-great-gatsby.jpg

It’s just not my style. It’s kind of terrifying if we’re being honest.

Who’s your favourite actor/celebrity?

Currently, I’m in love with Jameela Jamil. I love celebrities that are socially conscientious and try to do the right thing, and I l o v e that she calls out shitty behaviour by other famous people. She isn’t scared to be like “you specifically are doing this wrong thing” but she also owns up when she’s messed up. I just love her.

Because I desperately need to either nap or start studying, I’m not going to tag anyone right now. But please let me know your thoughts on any of these questions too!

Thanks again to Rachel and Kiersten for the wonderful questions! And thank you all for reading!

Ally xx

  1. Kiersten’s questions are so much more creative than mine, lol! But I loved reading your answers to both sets. I didn’t like Curious Incident either – it felt very ‘autism 101’ and I kept wishing there was more depth to it. Jameela Jamil is perfection!
