The Leibster Award!

I was tagged by the lovely LaRonda from Flying Paperbacks (which is one of the best blog names) and Dani from Dani’s Bookshelf to do the Leibster award! Thank you both so much, and I’m sorry it took me so long to get to!

Rules

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and provide a link to their post.
  • Answer the 11 questions they asked you.

  • Tag your chosen 11 bloggers and don’t forget to tell them as well!

From LaRonda

What made you start blogging?

I was getting out of a book slump (like a two year book slump) and wanted to talk about my favourite books with other people. I’d been toying with the idea of starting a blog for like six years and just finally did it one day.

Your feelings on DNFing?

I’m a proponent of DNFing! My philosophy is that there are too many books that I want to read and not enough time, so if I’m not enjoying a book, I won’t force myself to finish it (for the most part).

How do you choose when to buy a paperback vs. a hardcover?

Honestly, I usually just buy whatever version is in the store. If it’s a new release, it’ll most likely be hardcover. Unless the hardcover is crazy expensive.

Weirdest book you’ve ever read?

John Dies at the End by David Wong, 100%. I just… don’t even know with that book? Like. It’s one of those books that white boys think is really deep when in reality it’s just a pile of not good stuff? And also just very weird. Like don’t even get me started.

Your favourite Spring season meal?

Ooooooh good question. K idk if this counts, but my family always gives up ice cream for lent, and then on Easter we normally go to Dairy Queen for dinner and get blizzards/sundaes. So it would be chicken fingers and fries from Dairy Queen and either a hot fudge sundae with extra hot fudge or a chocolate Xtreme blizzard.

Who’s an author you’d love to co-write a book with?

I think Celeste Ng! Her writing was amazing and I think it’d be so cool to co-author a book with her. Not that I’d ever be good enough but still.

Any pets?

We have a puppy named Theo!

What’s the most recent book you’ve bought only because of the cover?

I mentioned Little Fires Everywhere on Tuesday, so I’ll go with 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. Literally one of my favourite covers ever (see below).

Any hobbies other than reading?

I horseback ride! And I like photography, so that too.

If you could travel anywhere with any character, where would you go and with who?

I would love to go to Italy and I’d love to be with Sirius Black.

How are you feeling about 2018 so far?

It’s been better than 2017, which isn’t saying much but still. I’m optimistic!

From Dani

Do you collect anything when you travel? If so, what and why?

I like getting post cards from most places. Also key chains or pins or badges. Just little things so I can remember I went somewhere.

What’s your favourite part about having a blog that you didn’t expect when you started?

Because I am literally Amy Santiago from Brooklyn Nine-Nine, I’m going to say the organization lol. I love scheduling and organizing things, but I didn’t think I’d like it *that* much.

What’s something you have waaaaay too much of (besides books)?

Scarves. I was obsessed with scarves for a while and I think I now have like 40? And only wear about four of them now lol.

Name the one book on your shelf that you’d most like to get signed by the author and why.

Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, because I would love to meet Neil Gaiman. Or The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas because I would love to meet and hug her.

What’s one of your favourite places you’ve visited and why?

I went to Morocco when I was 17 and it was amazing and I would go back in a heartbeat. I just loved it a lot, I don’t really know why. It’s so. old. Like, we went to a university that was from the middle ages. Like what? And it’s an incredibly beautiful country.

Do you prefer big bookstores or small, one-of-a-kind ones?

Small ones! I like going to smaller bookstores and seeing what they stock.

Cats or dogs? Or other?

Dogs! I love cats too, but I’m definitely a dog person.

Paperback or hardcover (or ebook)? Why?

Paperback, because it’s easier to hold. But also ebook because it’s easier to travel with.

What’s your favourite social media platform and why?

Probably instagram? idk I’m obsessed with social media and think it’s really interesting, so it would be hard to pick just one.

List five of your favorite book covers right now.

What’s your favourite blog post you’ve written?

I liked the discussion I did on medication in YA books and the one looking at how well Goodreads know me. They were both a lot of fun!

My questions (I stole some of the ones I was given because they were great):

  • How do you choose when to buy a paperback vs. a hardcover?
  • Weirdest book you’ve ever read?
  • If you could travel anywhere with any character, where would you go and with who?
  • Name the one book on your shelf that you’d most like to get signed by the author and why.
  • Do you like musicals and if so, what’s your favourite?
  • How many books is too many books for a series?
  • Favourite flower (in the spirit of spring?)
  • If you could only wear one colour for the rest of your life, what colour would it be?
  • If you could have any pet from a book, what pet would it be?
  • Best book of 2018 so far?
  • Current favourite song?

Haha I have too many scarves too and I never even wear them. It doesn’t even get that cold where I live so I don’t know why I have so many!
Great answers, I really enjoyed reading them 😊

  3. Congratulations on your nomination! I think it’s true what you said about DNFing a book, it was really hard for me before but there’s so much I want to read now, it just needs to be done haha

  4. Um, I’m clearly the worst as I’m only reading this now…I’ve been so behind on keeping up with the blogging community. But I’m so excited to see you did this tag, and I really enjoyed reading your answers!
