Like usual, life got in the way. November was a hard month, especially closer to the end. School and work were super busy, and there was some personal family things that happened. So not as much reading happened as I would have liked. But I still read a lot and was happy with how I did overall.
November Challenges revisted
Challenge (read-a-thin): Read a diverse book
Challenge (read-a-thin): Read a new-to-you author
Book: the Help by Kathryn Stockett
Status: finished! I have a review coming soon. Overall I really liked it, but I had some issues with some of the messages.
Challenge (read-a-thin): Read a horror/thriller
Challenge (read-a-thin): Read a book in 24 hours
Book: Between You and Me by Lisa Hall
Status: finished! I didn’t like this one as much as some other people seem too, but it was still enjoyable enough. The ending did blow me away, which is good. Review is coming!
Challenge (read-a-thin): Read an eBook
Book: The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf
Status: put down for now. The issue with this book is honestly how it’s formatted on my Kindle. FOUR page turns on Kindle is ONE actual page in the book, so it takes me FOREVER to get through any substantial amount. Hopefully soon! It’s super interesting, and I’m really enjoying it.
Challenge (read-a-thin): Read a book outside of your favourite genre
Book: The Queen of Katwe by Tim Crothers (memoir, non-fiction)
Status: put down for now. I didn’t read anymore of this book this month, so I’ve decided to put it down for now until I have more time.
Challenge (read-a-thin): Read a book that counts toward another readathon
Challenge (Tome Topple): Read an adult book
Book: the Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill (512 pages)
Status: started. I thought I’d be able to read both Tomes, but I didn’t consider how long it takes me to read them. Also life happened and my reading time was cut.
Challenge (Tome Topple): Read a tome that is part of a series
Book: American Gods by Neil Gaiman (784 pages)
Status: finished! I really enjoyed this book! I love Neil Gaiman’s writing and this is considered one of his best. My copy is the 10th anniversary edition, which has 12,000 more words than the original, so it should count for multiple tomes I think!
- Challenge: Read a diverse book
- Challenge: Read a new-to-you author
- Challenge: Read a horror/thriller
- Challenge: Read a book in 24 hours (it ended up being about 27 hours but I’m still counting it!)
- Challenge: Read a tome that is part of a series
Total pages read: 1,585
Overall, I’m fairly happy with how this month went reading-wise, considering I rarely read during school. I read some great books and made a dent in other books, so I’m happy.
