Find more about T5W here! This week is authors you’d want to write like, which is such a great topic!
Neil Gaiman
I know his writing is controversial, but I find some of it so lyrical and poetic, especially in his short stories. I’ve always been a huge fan of his writing, and when I had to do creative pieces for English in high school, I would always try to channel him.
Donna Tartt
Her writing is so descriptive and I love it. It’s descriptive without being redundant (generally – there are some places where it’s a little redundant) and her ability to create character and distinct voices is so impressive.
Erin Morgenstern
I think anyone who’s read the Night Circus agrees. Her writing is just magical and beautiful. I would love to be able to write with that amount of magic.
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
She manages to say everything I try to say in such a succinct and understandable way. I really admire her and her writing.
Rupi Kaur
I just recently read the sun and her flowers and it was amazing. I love how she makes her poems understandable, yet so emotional and raw. She isn’t afraid to take chances and I really admire that.
Those are the authors I’d like to be able to write like! I think it’s interesting that they’re almost all women and I’m super happy to see that!
What are your favourite writers?
Thanks for reading! xx
This is an interesting thought! And I agree – Neil Gaiman’s writing style is worth emulating. I don’t always like his stories, but I love his storytelling, if the distinction makes sense.

I totally get that! Some of his short stories, I didn’t really connect with, but the writing was still so good that I read them

Great list!
I really admire Rowling’s characterizations.
For world building I like Brandon Sanderson.
For depth I like William Golding.
For productivity I like Stephen King.
And for a fifth? I guess I like myself! 🙂
