Thursday’s Top 4: authors where I liked one of their books but not the other

Find out more about Thursday’s Top 4 here! It’s basically a meme I started mainly for myself, but anyone can participate! Visit this page for the upcoming topics 🙂

This week’s topic is authors where you liked one of their books but not the other (aka the longest title ever).

John Green

  • Liked: Looking for Alaska
  • Disliked: an Abundance of Katherines

Looking for Alaska is one of my favourite books, but I just do not like An Abundance of Katherines. Honestly, most of John Green’s other books were a bit of a let down for me in comparison to Looking for Alaska.

Lauren Oliver

  • Liked: Before I Fall
  • Disliked: Delirium

Delirium is honestly one of the most boring books I’ve ever read. I don’t know why because the topic was so interesting. But alas I just couldn’t get into it. I love Before I Fall, though.

David Levithan

  • Liked: Everyday
  • Disliked: Boy Meets Boy

I think if you’re queer, you’d love Boy Meets Boy. It’s not that I didn’t like it, I just didn’t love it as much as Everyday. BUT I still highly recommend Boy Meets Boy.

Markus Zusak

  • Liked: I am the Messenger
  • Disliked: the Book Thief

I’M SORRY but I just couldn’t get into the Book Thief. I still read it, but I didn’t love it as much as I am the Messenger.

Are there any authors where you like one of there books but can’t get into the other one??

Thanks for reading! xx

  1. The first example for me that comes to mind is J.R.R. Tolkien. I loved The Hobbit, but couldn’t do The Silmarillion. I know there are more, but that’s the most glaring of them.

  2. Love this idea so much, it’s so cool and fun. If I had to pick one, I’d say probably Benjamin Alire Sáenz. I loved Ari and Dante, but I couldn’t really get into The Inexplicable Logic of My Life. It was an alright read, but I had such high hopes and I ended up disappointed.

  3. OH I TOTALLY GET YOUUUUU!!! There is nothing more irritating than starting to like an author based on one book and you are like all hyoed and stuff when the next book by the same writer comes out….ANNNDD THEN, IT SUCKS!!! WORST. FEELING. EVER. IT FEELS LIKE BEING CHEATED. 😂😂😂
But to be honest, I haven’t read anything by John Green other than The Fault in Our Stars. 😅 I am yet to find out how his other novels are. 😄

    1. THANK YOU!! It’s also the worst when you dislike an authors book, so then you don’t want to read their other stuff. Like I wasn’t a fan of Rainbow Rowell’s Eleanor and Park, but I’ve heard so many good things about her other ones BUT I feel like Eleanor and Park ruined her for me? SO ANNOYING

I’M SO GLAD YOU RELATED THOUGH it’s always good to know I’m not alone haha
