I saw this tag on Rachel’s blog and really enjoyed reading her answers! We all know that I like unpopular opinions, so I thought this would be perfect!
A popular book or book series that you didn’t like.
All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. I’m SORRY but I hate Finch and I just couldn’t get into this book.
A popular book or book series that everyone else seems to hate but you love.
According to Goodreads, my lowest-rated 5-star book (the one I rated as 5 stars but has the lowest average rating) is the Luxe by Anna Godbersen which has a 3.63. And I get it, it’s a really dumb series and if I read it now I probably would find so many issues with it. But I loved it when I read it, and I will forever believe that it’s not as dumb as it seems and people should stop overlooking it!
An OTP that you don’t like.
Can I do a type of OTP instead? I’m honestly not a fan of the whole hate-to-love OTPs. I just find them….irritating? Like if you actually dislike someone, there’s not much of a chance you’re going to fall for them? And I wish that would stop being perpetuated in books and TV shows.
A popular book genre that you hardly reach for.
I’ve been turning away from a lot of YA fantasy recently, just because I find it repetitive. But also YA romance?
A popular/beloved character that you do not like.
Again, I think Finch from All the Bright Places. It seems that everyone who loved that book loved it because of him, but he was literally the worst.
A popular author that you can’t seem to get into.
Sarah Dessen. One of my favourite books, The Truth About Forever, is by her, but I have zero interest in reading any of her other books.
A popular book trope that you’re tired of seeing.
I’m stealing Rachel’s answer here, but what she called the Beauty and the Beast trope, the trope wherein an attractive girl falls for an unattractive guy.
Also the whole “you don’t know you’re beautiful” trope. I wish we had more books about girls who were pretty and KNEW they were pretty and were proud of it. It would be so revolutionary to see a girl describe herself as pretty and be proud of it and not have be something vain. Like people are happy that she thinks she’s pretty. I would love that.
A popular series that you have no interest in reading.
Any of Sarah J. Maas’, tbh. Just based off of the reviews, I don’t think her books are something I can see myself enjoying. I’m not super into high fantasy, and I’m not really into graphic sex scenes, both of which she has soooo
The saying goes “the book is always better than the movie,” but what movie or tv show adaptation do you prefer more than the book?
I haven’t read the book, but I really enjoyed Everything, Everything and don’t think I’d enjoy the book all that much.
I tag whoever else likes telling their unpopular opinions! Are there any of these that you agree with?
Thanks for reading! xx
