Book review: the Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen

This book follows Macy, who strives for perfection. She plans to work at the library and prep for the SAT throughout her summer while her boyfriend (who is also “perfect”) is away at Brain Camp, but unexpectedly joins a catering company. There, she meets Wes and a whole host of other, different, imperfect people.

4.5/5 stars

This is a YA romance novel, which you could probably guess given it’s written by Sarah Dessen. Generally these aren’t my favourite, but I really enjoy it. It’s super interesting, especially the catering scenes and the dynamic between Macy and Wes. It’s a little clichéd, but no more than any other YA. I really enjoy Macy and Wes’s friendship and their relationship.

I really enjoy all the characters as well. Macy’s mother is really interesting and is really well contrasted with the woman who runs the catering business. Macy’s co-workers are also all really good and interesting characters. They definitely provide a lot of entertainment and plot in themselves.

As far as YAs go, it’s pretty good and enjoyable. I would classify it as a ‘road trip book,’ as my brother and I call them. Books that are good and interesting, but also easy to read. It would definitely be in that category. I would recommend it to readers of all ages who like YA romances.

Thanks for reading!
